SPECIAL EVENT FOR IES MEMBERS

 

Don’t miss a rare opportunity to get an inside look at the backstage operations of Popejoy Hall and what a touring Broadway show looks like up close

 

IES Albuquerque will be hosting a guided tour and behind the scenes look at the stage lighting system for the National Tour of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

 

 

 

 

The event will be held at Popejoy Hall

University of New Mexico

July 9th 2010, 11 am to 1 pm

 

 

 

§         $15 for IES members – $20 for non-members

§         Lunch is included

§         Space is limited to 25 people only

§         Pease note that IES members will be given preference, if you are not a member you may request a reservation based on availability

Additional pay parking lots are located close to UNM off of Yale, and there are a limited number of metered spaces along Central and other side streets.

 

  • Attendees are strongly encouraged to arrive on time and will meet the main lobby of the Center for the Arts promptly at 11AM.

 

  • We will have a brief orientation inside Popejoy Hall, while we observe the show being set up.

 

  • At 11:30 we will have box lunches on the Rodey Theatre stage, located adjacent to Popejoy, followed at 12 noon by a guided tour of the Popejoy Hall stage and the show’s sophisticated live performance lighting system; we will have the shows Head Electrician, Ken Weinberg as our guide.

 

 

 

Ken Weinberg Bio

 

 

Ken's interest in theatre and specifically theatrical lighting started at an early age doing the design and execution for his middle school and high school plays and musicals.  After he realized he could make an actual profession out of doing this, he decided to go the University at Albany (SUNY) where he got his BA in Technical Theatre and Design, with a concentration in Lighting.  He spent his summers doing summer stock theater in upstate New York - The Hangar Theater in Ithaca, NY and Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY.  After college he started working professionally as a stagehand in Las Vegas, working on rock and roll, dance, corporate events and theatrical shows.  He has toured with a few different groups, dance and theater, including the modern dance groups Aeros, Waterwall and Revolution.  His theatrical touring includes Disney's Beauty and the Beast.  He moved to Brooklyn, NY and when he's not on the road works around the city as a stagehand and
